Fletcher Place Community Center (FPCC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has provided outreach programs for the poor and unhoused since 1872, FPCC programs, however, have evolved over time to meet the changing needs of our clients.  FPCC is committed to our original mission but also focused on providing programming to support family empowerment and success.

Early Childhood Education: Recognizing the importance of early childhood education on breaking the cycle of poverty and setting the next generation up for success, our program, which began in 1930, started as basic childcare then evolved into a Jack-and-Jill Kindergarten.  Currently, REACH Early Learning at FPCC is an safe, affordable, curriculum based Paths to Quality Level 3 early learning program for children ages 6 weeks to 5.  Curriculum is based on the “REACH Approach”. The REACH Approach is an emergent, Reggio Emilia inspired curriculum cycle that views children, teachers, and the environment as core, interconnected components of a vibrant learning community.  REACH EL offers opportunities for full scholarships to children while supporting parents to gain valuable education and training in alignment with the 2Gen Poverty Model.  REACH EL being housed within FPCC allows us to provide our immediate need services to families and create a “family village” supporting breaking the cycle of poverty.

Immediate Need: In 1983 FPCC started serving hot meals twice a week.  The program pivoted with the pandemic and has continued pivoting as our current space became laser focused on early childhood education.  We currently serve hot meals twice a week as well as distributing sack meals, Second Helping sandwiches and hygiene kits during meals.  We also distribute clothing each Friday during service.  A food pantry and Renewal Boutique are managed for distribution to REACH families. A Christmas Shopping program for families is hosted each year.

Community Wellness: The FPCC Community Garden has been a fixture in our programming for over 10 years.  The garden is consistently increasing the number fresh from the ground food provided to our neighbors.  We also work to provide health, wellness and nutrition outreach.  The garden has evolved to include a Farm to Table cooking challenge for our REACH EL families providing them with free fresh produce and recipes introducing them to healthy eating.  In addition to a free weekly garden stand for neighbors in the growing season, produce is provided to neighbors during our hot meals and Golden Age program.
